Yongin Dragons CEO Kim Seok-won said on Wednesday that he recently registered Seo as a player in the league. Yonhap News reported.
Seo Jun-won was charged with receiving body photos from minors through mobile messengers in August 2022 and sentenced to three years in prison and five years of probation in the first trial in September 2024.
The original trial was maintained at the appeal trial, and KBO held a reward and punishment committee on the 12th to decide on the disqualification of weapons in accordance with Article 151 of the KBO Code.
CEO Kim said, "Even though I was criticized, I wanted to give Seo Joon-won one last chance to complete his career through baseball."
Regarding Seo Joon-won's registration as a player, the club claimed to have received a voter interpretation from the Gyeonggi-do League of the independent baseball team that "there is no problem with qualification to register as a player," but it has not yet received consent from other clubs in the league.
CEO Kim said, "We plan to go to the league management meeting and ask Seo Joon-won to approve his participation in the game."
However, the Gyeonggi Baseball Softball Association, the organization that hosts the Gyeonggi League, said Seo Jun-won cannot play as a player.
The Gyeonggi Baseball Softball Association explained, "It is impossible to register a person whose imprisonment type or higher is being executed as a player according to the regulations of the Korea Baseball Softball Association, which is a high-ranking organization."
He also added, "It is difficult to register a player (who caused a question) even for other players who do not give up their dreams to advance to the professional league even in difficult conditions," adding, "We have not officially received documents (from Yongin Dragons)."
